·在我们的行为之可以说明的原因背后，无须怀疑地隐藏着我们没有说明的原因，但是在这些原因背后，还有另外许多我们自己一无所知的神秘因素。我们大多数的日常行为，都是我们无法观察到的一些隐秘动机的结果。
·由于群体的力量有着纯粹的破坏性，因而他们的作用就像是加速垂危者或者死尸解体的细菌。当文明的结构摇摇欲坠的时候，使它倾覆的总是群众。

一、群体的时代
1.破碎不堪的文明的分崩离析是群众作用的产物

7.群众不能引领文明，而能摧毁文明。
Civilisations as yet have only been created and directed by a small intellectual aristocracy, never by crowds. Crowds are only powerful for destruction. Their rule is always tantamount to a barbarian phase.
二、群体的一般特征
1. 数量众多的个人凝聚力并不足以建立一个群体
A numerically strong agglomeration of individuals does not suffice to form a crowd.
A crowd is as easily heroic as criminal.
2. 无意识构成种族的本性特征
Our conscious acts are the oute of an unconscious substratum created in the mind in the main by hereditary influences. This substratum consists of the innumerable mon characteristics handed down from generation to generation, which constitute the genius of a race.
3. 群众同质化
In the collective mind the intellectual aptitudes of the individuals and in consequence their individuality, are weakened. The heterogeneous is swamped by the homogeneous, and the unconscious qualities obtain the upper hand.
4. 群众匿名与不负责
A crowd being anonymous in consequence is irresponsible.
5. 在群众里被孤立的人就如同野蛮人.但被孤立的人拥有掌握自身反射作用的能力，而一个群体则缺少这样的能力。
Isolated, he may be a cultivated individual. In a crowd , he is a barbarian—that is , a creature acting by instinct. He possesses the spontaneity, the violence, the ferocity, and alson the enthusiasm and heroism of primitive.
